Umm Al Quwain is the UAE’s quietest emirate, and its bus network matches: there is no big central bus station and no local bus system — just a handful of intercity services that stop at points like Union Roundabout and the Lulu Centre bus stop. That makes UAQ confusing to reach, because the four neighbouring cities connect to it in four completely different ways. Ajman has the best service — a dedicated hourly line. Dubai is served by through-buses on the Ras Al Khaimah corridor. Sharjah’s Route 115 stops inside UAQ on its way north. And from Abu Dhabi there is no direct bus at all. This guide takes each origin city in turn, with fares, timings and the honest status of the often-quoted “E601” route.

From Ajman: the UAQ line (best option)
Ajman Transport runs a dedicated Umm Al Quwain Line from Al Musalla Bus Station — the most straightforward UAQ bus service there is:
- Fare: AED 10 with a Masaar card, AED 15 in cash
- Timings: hourly from about 07:00 to 22:00 in both directions
- Journey: roughly 30–45 minutes (journey planners show as little as ~21 minutes to the Lulu Centre stop, the main UAQ drop point on this line)
One caution: two websites claim this line runs until 02:00. That traces back to a garbled fare table that duplicated another route’s hours — the consistent, corroborated version is 07:00–22:00, so plan on that. If you’re coming from further south, Al Musalla is also where Dubai’s E400/E411 buses arrive — see our Dubai to Ajman bus guide.
From Dubai: Ras Al Khaimah corridor buses (and the E601 question)
Older Dubai guides describe RTA route E601 — Etihad Bus Station (Deira) to Umm Al Quwain, “every 45 minutes, AED 10, 45 minutes” — and hundreds of pages still repeat those 2019–2023 figures. We have to flag a problem: current journey-planner data no longer shows a direct Union Square → UAQ bus, and we could not confirm from an official RTA page that E601 still runs under that number today. Treat any site quoting the old E601 times as out of date until RTA’s S’hail app confirms otherwise.
What definitely serves the corridor now is the RAKTA Dubai ↔ Ras Al Khaimah bus from Union Square, which passes through Umm Al Quwain: RAKTA lists it running roughly hourly from 07:30 into the late evening, with the full Dubai–RAK fare at AED 30 and the RAK↔UAQ segment around AED 15. So from Dubai, board a Ras Al Khaimah-bound bus at Union and ask for the UAQ stop (Union Roundabout) when you buy your ticket. The full route is covered in our Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah bus guide. Coming back, the same buses stop in UAQ on the way south — and also call at Al Musalla (Ajman) and Al Jubail (Sharjah).
From Sharjah: Route 115 stops inside UAQ
There is no dedicated Sharjah–UAQ terminus route. Instead, SRTA Route 115 (Al Jubail → Ras Al Khaimah) passes through Umm Al Quwain, and timetable sites that reproduce its stop list show three UAQ stops: Al Salma R/A, Umm Al Quwain Traffic Department and Umm Al Quwain Industrial Area. The 115 runs roughly hourly through the day from Al Jubail (the full Sharjah–RAK pattern is in our Sharjah to Ras Al Khaimah bus guide); one 2023 timetable priced Sharjah → UAQ at AED 25, but SRTA publishes no clean public fare for the segment, so confirm at the Al Jubail counter. Beware route-number chaos online: you will also see this journey labelled “114” (which other sources say is the Ajman City Centre route) and even “E411” — the counter at Al Jubail is the authority, not the blogs. The fallback is two buses: Sharjah → Ajman, then the Ajman UAQ line above (about 1¼ hours in total). Getting to Al Jubail from Dubai is covered in our Dubai to Sharjah bus guide.

From Abu Dhabi: no direct bus
There is no direct Abu Dhabi to Umm Al Quwain bus — every source agrees on this, and any site advertising one (usually an invented operator name) should be ignored. Two real options:
- Via Ajman (recommended): Capital Express CX411 runs Abu Dhabi ↔ Ajman (AED 35, four trips a day), arriving at Al Musalla — where you simply cross the station and take the hourly UAQ line (AED 10–15). Total around 4 hours.
- Via Sharjah: Route 117 from Abu Dhabi Central to Al Jubail (about 2 hrs 40 min), then Route 115 north through UAQ — slower, but all SRTA/Ajman network.
Getting around once you arrive
Set expectations correctly: Umm Al Quwain has no internal public bus network. Intercity buses set you down at Union Roundabout, the Lulu Centre stop or the Route 115 stops, and from there it’s taxis (or your host) for the beach, the museum, UAQ National Museum area and the mangrove/Dreamland side of the emirate. Keep the number of a local taxi or your return bus time handy — with hourly services, missing one costs an hour.

FAQs
Is there a bus from Dubai to Umm Al Quwain?
Yes, but not quite the one old guides describe. The frequently quoted RTA E601 (AED 10, every 45 minutes) could not be confirmed in current planner data; the service that verifiably stops in UAQ today is the RAKTA Dubai–Ras Al Khaimah bus from Union Square, which calls at UAQ (Union Roundabout) on its way north.
What is the best way to Umm Al Quwain by bus?
From Ajman. Ajman Transport’s UAQ line leaves Al Musalla hourly (07:00–22:00), costs AED 10 with a Masaar card or AED 15 cash, and takes about 30–45 minutes.
How much is the Ajman to Umm Al Quwain bus?
AED 10 with a Masaar card, AED 15 without (cash) — the cheapest UAQ fare from any city.
Is there a direct bus from Abu Dhabi to Umm Al Quwain?
No. Travel via Ajman (Capital Express CX411 to Al Musalla, then the Ajman UAQ line) or via Sharjah (Route 117 to Al Jubail, then Route 115).
Does the Sharjah to Ras Al Khaimah bus stop in Umm Al Quwain?
Yes — Route 115’s stop list includes Al Salma R/A, UAQ Traffic Department and UAQ Industrial Area. It is not a dedicated Sharjah–UAQ route, so check the segment fare at Al Jubail.
Where is the Umm Al Quwain bus station?
There is no single central bus station. The main intercity stops are Union Roundabout (Dubai/RAK corridor), the Lulu Centre Bus Stop (Ajman line) and the Route 115 stops at Al Salma, the Traffic Department and the Industrial Area.
Can I get from Umm Al Quwain to Ajman by bus?
Yes — the same Ajman Transport UAQ line runs back to Al Musalla hourly until about 22:00, AED 10 (Masaar) / AED 15 (cash). The Ras Al Khaimah–Ajman bus also stops in UAQ.
