Yes, the Abu Dhabi to Ras Al Khaimah bus is a direct service — despite what several well-known journey-planner sites claim. Run by RAKTA, it connects Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station with Al Hamra Bus Station in Ras Al Khaimah three times a day in each direction, every day of the week. There is one quirk you need to know before you book: the fare is not the same both ways. Abu Dhabi → Ras Al Khaimah costs AED 35, while Ras Al Khaimah → Abu Dhabi costs AED 50. Below are the official RAKTA timings, an explanation of why so many websites quote old fares (AED 45, AED 47) and old schedules, and the via-Dubai and via-Ajman alternatives for when the three daily departures don’t fit your plans.

Abu Dhabi to Ras Al Khaimah bus timings (official RAKTA)
The current official schedule — the same one published by Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism authority — is simple:
| Direction | Departures | Fare |
|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi → Ras Al Khaimah | 13:30 · 17:30 · 21:30 | AED 35 |
| Ras Al Khaimah → Abu Dhabi | 09:00 · 13:00 · 17:00 | AED 50 |
All three services run every day, not just on weekends. Note there is no morning departure from Abu Dhabi — the first bus south-to-north leaves at 13:30. If you need to be in Ras Al Khaimah before lunch, use one of the alternative routings below, or travel the evening before on the 21:30.
Why other websites quote AED 45 and “weekends only”
This route has been upgraded in stages, and a lot of the internet hasn’t caught up. It launched on 1 January 2020 under an ITC–RAKTA agreement as a Thursday–Saturday only service with two trips a day: RAK → Abu Dhabi at AED 45, Abu Dhabi → RAK at AED 35. Since then it has grown to a daily, three-times-a-day service, and the northbound fare has moved to AED 50 on RAKTA’s current official timetable. The figures you’ll still see elsewhere — AED 45 (the 2020 launch fare), AED 47 (an older official listing repeated by the tourism site and several blogs), and “three days a week” — are all leftovers from earlier versions of the service. Even Rome2Rio gets this route wrong, telling users there is “no direct bus” — there is, and it’s this one.
Journey time and stations
Plan on 3 to 3½ hours station to station (about 300 km by road; sources range from 2½ to 3½ hours depending on traffic and stops — the 13:30 departure is shown arriving around 17:00 on timetable sites). In Abu Dhabi, buses use the Central Bus Station — the same terminal as the E100/E101 Dubai buses in our Dubai to Abu Dhabi bus guide. In Ras Al Khaimah you arrive at Al Hamra Bus Station, handy for Al Hamra Village, the malls and the southern resorts; RAKTA city buses and taxis wait outside for onward trips to the city centre and Al Nakheel.

How to book and pay
Seats can be booked through the RAKBUS website or RAKTA’s Sayr app, and tickets are also sold at the station counters. In Ras Al Khaimah, RAKTA’s E-SAQR card is the local smart card for city buses — but for a one-off intercity trip, booking ahead in the app is the safest option, especially on the 21:30 from Abu Dhabi, which is the last bus of the day. Questions and schedule confirmations: RAKTA’s call centre is 800 1700. Do not expect your Nol card to work — it isn’t accepted on RAKTA intercity buses.
Alternatives if the direct timings don’t suit
Via Dubai (more departures, one extra transfer)
Take E100 from Abu Dhabi Central to Al Ghubaiba in Dubai (AED 25, Nol card, frequent all day), cross Dubai to Union Bus Station, then the Dubai → Ras Al Khaimah bus, which RAKTA lists as running hourly from 07:30 to 23:30 for AED 30 via Umm Al Quwain. Combined bus fares: AED 55, plus the Dubai transfer most guides forget to mention. Timetables for the second leg are in our Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah bus guide.
Via Ajman
Abu Dhabi’s main station also has direct buses to Ajman (Al Musalla) — a roughly 3-hour ride, a few times a day — from where the Ajman → Ras Al Khaimah bus (AED 25) completes the trip. Door to door this comes to about 4¾ hours, so it only makes sense combined with a stop in Ajman.
Via Sharjah
If you’re heading to Sharjah anyway, note that Ras Al Khaimah also has an hourly bus to Sharjah (AED 27) detailed in our Sharjah to Ras Al Khaimah bus guide, and Abu Dhabi–Sharjah buses (Route 117) can be chained with it — but with two changes, this is the slowest option of the three.

- For the return, remember the times and price change: 09:00, 13:00 or 17:00, AED 50.
