Let’s start with the honest answer most websites avoid giving you: there is no direct bus from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah. No ITC, SRTA or private coach runs the route non-stop, whatever a few low-quality timetable sites claim. Every bus journey between the two cities involves one change — either in Sharjah or in Dubai. The good news is that both routings are simple, cheap and run all day. This guide compares them properly: the Sharjah connection (one station, same-terminal change, about AED 57–60) and the Dubai connection (E100/E101 plus the E700), so you can pick the one that fits your day.

Option 1 (recommended): Abu Dhabi → Sharjah → Fujairah
This is the routing journey planners actually recommend, because both buses use the same station — Al Jubail in Sharjah — so your change is a walk across the terminal, not a trip across a city.

Leg 1: Route 117, Abu Dhabi to Sharjah
SRTA Route 117 runs from Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station to Al Jubail Bus Station, Sharjah — about 164 km in roughly 2 hours 40–50 minutes. One verified quirk to know: the fare is direction-dependent — AED 30 from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah, AED 33 in the opposite direction. Buses are advertised by most guides as running from early morning until late evening every 30–60 minutes, but a word of caution: SRTA’s own online journey enquiry has recently shown only a couple of Abu Dhabi departures, and the full daytime timetable could not be verified from official data. Check the departure board at Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station (or ask at the counter) before building a tight connection around this leg.
Leg 2: Route 116, Sharjah to Fujairah
From the same Al Jubail terminal, SRTA Route 116 runs to Fujairah via Dhaid and Masafi. Most guides list departures roughly every 30 minutes between about 05:30 and 23:00 and a journey of around 2 hours; SRTA enquiry results for the Fujairah-city variant (116 G) show hourly departures from 06:00 to 22:30 and about 2 hours 25 minutes to the city stops. The fare is quoted as AED 27 by most sources and AED 30 in SRTA enquiry results — carry enough for the higher figure. Before boarding, confirm the bus terminates in Fujairah city: some 116 services run to Khor Fakkan instead.

Total via Sharjah: about AED 57–60 and around 5 hours station to station. Our Dubai to Sharjah bus guide covers Al Jubail station and its other routes if you want to combine the trip with a Sharjah stop.
Option 2: Abu Dhabi → Dubai → Fujairah (E700)
The Dubai routing uses two of the UAE’s best-known intercity buses but adds a cross-city transfer in the middle.
Leg 1: E100 or E101 to Dubai
From Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station, E100 runs to Al Ghubaiba and E101 to Ibn Battuta, both for AED 25 on a Nol card, taking about 2 hours (E102 from Mussafah Shabiya is the third option). Departures are frequent all day — the full comparison is in our Dubai to Abu Dhabi bus guide.
The Dubai transfer
Neither E100 nor E101 drops you at the E700’s departure point. The Fujairah bus leaves from Union Square Bus Station, so you will need a Metro or taxi hop across Dubai (from Al Ghubaiba, the Green Line runs straight to Union). Build at least 30–45 minutes for this connection.
Leg 2: E700, Dubai to Fujairah
RTA E700 runs from Union Square to Fujairah via Sharjah, Dhaid and Masafi — about 120 km in 2 hours 15–20 minutes, with services roughly every 90 minutes from 05:30 until late evening. The fare is listed as AED 25 (Nol card only) by most guides, though some quote AED 30. Full stops and timings are in our Dubai to Fujairah bus guide.
Total via Dubai: about AED 50 in bus fares plus the transfer, and roughly 4½–5½ hours depending on your connection luck.
Why not go via Al Ain?
On a map, Abu Dhabi → Al Ain → Fujairah looks tempting. In reality it doesn’t work: there is no Al Ain to Fujairah bus at all. You would ride the X90 express to Al Ain (about 2 hours, AED 25–30), then have to backtrack north on Route 118 to Sharjah (2 hours 45 minutes) and still catch the 116 to Fujairah — roughly 7½ hours and about AED 85 with two changes. One timetable aggregator online advertises a “direct” Al Ain–Fujairah bus; no operator runs it, so ignore it. Stick with Sharjah or Dubai.
Step by step: Abu Dhabi to Fujairah via Sharjah
- At Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station, buy a Route 117 ticket to Sharjah (AED 30) and check the next departure on the board.
- Ride to Al Jubail Bus Station, Sharjah (about 2 hours 40 minutes) — stay in the same terminal.
- Buy a Route 116 ticket to Fujairah (AED 27–30) and confirm the bus terminates in Fujairah city, not Khor Fakkan.
- Ride via Dhaid and Masafi to Fujairah Bus Station (about 2–2½ hours).
- Fujairah city buses and taxis connect the station with the corniche, malls and hotels.
Fujairah to Abu Dhabi (the return)
The return works in mirror image: Route 116 from Fujairah Bus Station to Al Jubail, then Route 117 to Abu Dhabi — remembering the 117 costs AED 33 in this direction. Start early: with two buses and a transfer, the last safe connection leaves Fujairah in the late afternoon. If you would rather break the journey in Dubai, the E700 plus E100/E101 combination runs later into the evening.
