Muweilah Bus Station Sharjah: Routes & Timings

The Muweilah Bus Station is the bus terminal for Muwaileh Commercial, Sharjah’s university-side district — the Sharjah end of Dubai’s E315 intercity bus and the local hub for University City, Muwaileh’s school zone and the residential blocks along Maliha Road. It is one of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority’s (SRTA) city terminals, and two different bus families use it: Dubai’s RTA runs its E315 intercity service here, while SRTA’s own Mowasalat city buses connect the terminal with Rolla, Safari Mall and Al Saja’a. The name appears in three spellings — Muweilah, Muwaileh and Al Muwailah — but all three mean this one terminal. This guide covers every bus that uses Muweilah, which card each one takes, the station facilities, and how to reach it.

For Dubai trips, the E315 bus guide has every stop and the full timetable, and our Dubai to Sharjah bus guide compares all of the Dubai routes side by side. One point is worth making straight away: the E315 terminates at Muweilah and does not serve Al Jubail Bus Station in central Sharjah. Muweilah is the terminal for the University City side of the emirate; Al Jubail is the terminal for the old city centre and the corniche side. Choosing the wrong one adds a cross-city bus ride to your journey.

The Dubai Bus from Muweilah (RTA E315)

The E315 is the station’s only intercity bus, and it is the reason Muweilah appears in Dubai journey planners at all. It is an RTA Dubai service — the “E” prefix is RTA’s intercity series — running between this terminal and the bus station beside Etisalat Metro Station in Al Qusais, the terminus of the Dubai Metro Green Line. From Muweilah, buses leave every 30 minutes across the border, calling at Madina Shopping Centre and Hala Building in Sharjah before the non-stop run into Dubai; the return working also serves the two Maliha Road supermarket stops. The scheduled journey is about 40 minutes, although the Sharjah–Dubai border roads can stretch it considerably in the evening peak.

The service pattern from Muweilah is simple to remember: the first bus leaves at 5:10 AM and the last at 11:00 PM, Monday to Saturday. Sunday is the exception — the first departure is not until 10:05 AM, with the last bus at 11:10 PM. The fare is a flat AED 12, paid by Nol card only. That is the station-level summary; the complete timetable, the full stop list in both directions and the Sunday detail are in our E315 bus route guide. For most Muweilah residents, students and school staff, this bus plus the Green Line is the cheapest way into Dubai — but if your destination is central Sharjah’s other side or the Al Jubail corridor, start from our Dubai to Sharjah bus guide instead, because the E315 does not go there.

Sharjah City Buses from Muweilah (SRTA)

SRTA’s own Mowasalat network fans out from the terminal across Sharjah. Payment on these buses is completely different from the Dubai bus: SRTA city buses take the Sayer card (Sharjah’s own smart card) or cash and the standard city fare is AED 6 by Sayer card or AED 8 in cash. Your Nol card will not work on them. Three routes use the terminal:

RouteWhere It GoesFareFrequency (approx.)
3Rolla Terminal & Safari Mall, via Al Jubail, King Faisal Street, Al Khan and Maliha RoadAED 6 Sayer · AED 8 cashEvery 20–40 min
14XRolla Terminal (express), via Maliha Road and King Faisal RoadAED 6 Sayer · AED 8 cashEvery 16–26 min
77Al Saja’a Terminal, via Maliha Road, Emirates Road and Al Dhaid RoadAED 6 Sayer · AED 8 cashLimited — roughly hourly at busy times, long gaps at midday

Route 3 is the cross-city workhorse: it links Muweilah with Al Jubail Bus Station, the Central Souq and King Faisal Street before crossing to Rolla, and at this end it finishes at Safari Mall, the shopping centre here in Muwaileh — so it covers both the city-centre trip and the local hop. The 14X is the faster way to Rolla, running the Maliha Road and King Faisal Road corridor with fewer stops and the terminal’s most frequent service, from around 6:50 AM to about 9:50 PM from Muweilah. The 77 is the industrial link, heading out along Maliha Road and Emirates Road to the Al Saja’a terminal and its industrial areas, a run of roughly 40 minutes — but it is a limited service with long gaps in the middle of the day, so check the departure times on srta.gov.ae or with the SRTA call centre before planning around it. One more route is useful nearby rather than at the terminal itself: route 15 runs along University City Road between Rolla, University City and Sharjah International Airport, and its University City stops are the closest airport-bus link to Muweilah.

How to Reach Muweilah Bus Station

The terminal stands on Maliha Road in the heart of Muwaileh Commercial, the district of schools, supermarkets and mid-rise residential blocks that serves University City. The universities themselves — the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah — are just across University City Road, which is why the station is at its busiest at class times and during the morning and afternoon school runs. Madina Shopping Centre, one of the E315’s own stops, is the handiest landmark, Safari Mall is a short distance along Maliha Road, and City Centre Al Zahia and Sharjah National Park are in the same University City district.

By Sharjah city bus: Routes 3 and 14X both bring you here from Rolla and central Sharjah, passing Al Jubail on the way, and route 77 comes in from Al Saja’a. If you are starting from anywhere in Sharjah city, one of these buses — or a short taxi ride — is the normal way to reach the terminal.

By taxi: Taxis wait outside the terminal, and drivers across Sharjah know it as “Muwaileh Bus Station” or simply the station near University City. From Dubai, a taxi costs many times the AED 12 E315 fare for the same trip.

From Dubai: Take the Metro Green Line to Etisalat, its terminus, and board the E315 at the bus station beside the Metro station. There is no Metro in Sharjah; the E315 is the rail connection for this side of the emirate.

By car: Approach along Maliha Road — University City Road runs to the south and the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road corridor to the north. Parking immediately around the terminal is limited, and the surrounding streets fill up at school and university peak times, so most passengers arrive by bus or taxi.

Facilities and Tickets at Muweilah

Muweilah is a working city terminal rather than a big interchange building. What you will find is a ticket counter, waiting seating and departure information for the routes using the station — enough for a daily commute, without the scale of Al Jubail. This is a place to buy or top up a Sayer card: SRTA lists its main terminals, Muweilah included, as Sayer sales and recharge points, so ask at the counter before your first SRTA ride. For the E315 there is nothing to buy at the station at all — you tap your Nol card on the bus — so make sure the card is topped up before you arrive, because there is no Dubai Metro station in Sharjah to top up at. Nol top-up happens on the Dubai side, at Etisalat or any other Metro station, or in the S’hail app.

For everything else, Muwaileh Commercial does the work: supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, pharmacies and ATMs fill the blocks around the terminal, with Madina Shopping Centre and Safari Mall both close by. Taxis queue outside, which makes the last short leg to a University City gate, a school or a residential block easy at any hour the buses are running.

Tips for Using Muweilah Bus Station

  • Carry the right card for the right bus: Nol for the E315 to Dubai, Sayer card or cash for every SRTA city bus. Neither card works on the other operator’s buses — this is the single most common mistake at Muweilah.
  • Board the E315 at the terminal for a seat: Towards Dubai the bus fills quickly in the late-afternoon peak, and the Maliha Road stops can be left with standing room only. Starting at the terminal guarantees a seat.
  • Mind the Sunday start: On Sundays the first E315 does not leave Muweilah until 10:05 AM. For an early Sunday trip to Dubai, you will need a taxi or a much longer route via Al Jubail.
  • Check the 77 before relying on it: The Al Saja’a service has long midday gaps. Confirm the next departure with SRTA on 600 525252 rather than simply turning up.
  • Use the right app for the right bus: RTA’s S’hail app shows live E315 departures; for SRTA services, check srta.gov.ae or call 600 525252.
  • Allow for the school run: Muwaileh’s school zone and University City traffic make Maliha Road slow on weekday mornings and early afternoons in term time. Build the delay into any trip with a connection at Etisalat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Muweilah Bus Station located?

It is on Maliha Road in Muwaileh Commercial, Sharjah, by Fire Station Road and at the edge of University City — close to the University of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah and Muwaileh’s school zone. RTA journey planners list it as Al Muwailah Bus Terminal; all three spellings refer to the same station.

Which bus goes from Muweilah to Dubai?

Only the E315. It runs from Muweilah to Etisalat Metro Station in Dubai (the Green Line terminus) every 30 minutes, taking about 40 minutes, for AED 12 by Nol card. The first bus from Muweilah is at 5:10 AM Monday to Saturday and 10:05 AM on Sundays; the full timetable is in our E315 bus route guide.

Does the E315 go to Al Jubail Bus Station?

No. The E315 runs between Etisalat in Dubai and Muweilah only — it does not serve Al Jubail Bus Station. For Al Jubail, take SRTA route 3 or 14X from Muweilah towards Rolla, which pass Al Jubail on the way, or use one of the six Dubai E-routes that terminate at Al Jubail if you are starting from Dubai.

Can I pay with a Nol card on Sharjah buses from Muweilah?

Only on the E315, which is an RTA Dubai bus. SRTA’s own city buses from Muweilah — routes 3, 14X and 77 — do not accept Nol. On those you pay with Sharjah’s Sayer card (AED 6) or cash (AED 8). You need the right card for each operator.

How do I get from Muweilah to Rolla and Sharjah city centre?

Take SRTA route 3 or the faster 14X express from the terminal. Both run along Maliha Road and King Faisal Road, passing Al Jubail Bus Station and the Central Souq before Rolla, and both charge the standard city fare of AED 6 by Sayer card or AED 8 in cash. The 14X runs from around 6:50 AM to about 9:50 PM from Muweilah.

Is there a bus from Muweilah to Sharjah International Airport?

There is no direct airport bus from the terminal itself. The closest bus link is SRTA route 15, which runs along University City Road between Rolla, University City and Sharjah International Airport — its University City stops are a short distance from the terminal. Check the current route 15 times with SRTA before travelling, or take a taxi, which is usually the practical option with luggage.

What time is the first and last bus from Muweilah Bus Station?

The earliest departure of the day is the E315 to Dubai at 5:10 AM, Monday to Saturday (10:05 AM on Sundays), and the last E315 leaves at 11:00 PM. SRTA city buses start later — from around 6:20 AM on route 3 — and finish earlier: the Rolla routes run until roughly 9:30–10:00 PM, and the 77 to Al Saja’a winds down at about 8:00 PM.

How do I get from Muweilah Bus Station to University City?

The terminal sits on the Muwaileh side of University City Road, directly facing the University City district — the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah are just across the road. Depending on which campus gate you need, it is a short walk or a few minutes by taxi, and SRTA city buses also run along University City Road itself.
