It is one of only two direct Dubai–Ajman routes in our Dubai to Ajman bus guide, and for most commuters it is the better one: it starts at Union, where the Red and Green Metro lines cross, runs up Al Ittihad Road through Sharjah, and finishes in the heart of Ajman. The E400 bus route takes 45–60 minutes, buses run every 20–30 minutes, and the fare is AED 15 by Nol card.

Al Ittihad Road is one of the most congested commuter corridors in the UAE. The scheduled 45–60 minute journey can stretch well beyond an hour between 6:30–9:30 AM heading into Dubai and 4:30–8:30 PM heading back to Ajman, so build in buffer time for work start times and Metro connections. Outside the peaks, the run is quick and the 20–30 minute frequency means you rarely need to plan around a specific departure.

E400 Bus Fare and Payment

The E400 fare is AED 15 one way, deducted from your Nol card when you board. No cash is taken, and there are no paper tickets. Keep at least AED 15 of balance on the card before you travel — top-ups are available at Union Metro Station and at bus station ticket machines. Inside Ajman, local buses are run by the Ajman Transport Authority and use their own payment arrangements (including the Masaar app), so do not assume your Nol card covers local Ajman trips beyond the E400 itself.

How to Reach Union Square Bus Station

Union Square Bus Station is next to Union Metro Station in Deira, the interchange of the Red and Green lines — from the Metro, follow the signs to the bus station exits on the Baniyas Road side. It is also a hub for dozens of Dubai city bus routes, and the E700 bus to Fujairah departs from the same station. In Ajman, Al Musallah Bus Station is by the Ajman Clock Tower area, within walking distance of the central souks and a short local bus or taxi ride from Al Nuaimiya, Rashidiya and the Corniche.

Tips for Riding the E400

  • The morning peak into Dubai is the busiest intercity flow in the northern emirates — the earliest buses (before 6:00 AM) are noticeably quieter.
  • Keep your Nol balance topped up the night before; station queues at Union build up fast at peak times.
  • Eating and drinking on board are prohibited.
  • On Fridays, services start a little later and the midday gap around prayer time can be longer — check S’hail before setting out.
